A Bit of Sewing in my Spare Time
When I'm not outside playing with my dogs, feeding my dogs, cleaning up after my dogs, etc etc etc, I like to do a bit of sewing. As you probably already know, quilting consists of cutting up pieces of perfectly good (and usually very expensive ! ! ) fabric, so that you can re-sew them into pieces of perfectly good fabric. Here are some of my quilts:
This is the first quilt I ever attempted. It's a Log Cabin quilt, arranged in the "Lightning Strike" pattern, and done by the "quilt as you go" method.
Here's my second completed quilt, in the Rail Fence pattern.
This is a "picture quilt" I made which I call "On The Pond". It's all done with my wonderful Bernina sewing machine - machine appliqued, and machine quilted.
This next one is "Alex's White Quilt", which I made for my daughter Alex. Goodness knows why you'd want to cut up various bits of white fabric just to put them back together in an almost invisible pattern, but that's what she wanted ! ! Again, machine pieced and machine quilted.
My Mum was the quilter in our family, so when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, I made this quilt in the "Broken Dishes" pattern for my Mum for her 76th birthday.
And this is the quilt I made for our first Grandchild, born on the 1st of July 2008.
And now for the UFO's.
For the uninitiated, a UFO is an UnFinished Object, and we all have plenty of them ! !
I made this one from a pattern in a Quilting magazine. It's called "Apples" for obvious reasons ! !
I call this one "It's all in the Jeans" - very appropriate for a dog breeder, I think ! It's made in a crazy patchwork style from lots of old pairs of jeans, with pockets, zips etc all still attached.
This is an un-named pink and green quilt made from a kit that I bought at a quilting fair years ago. UFO's can stick around a long time.
All of this has nothing to do with my dogs, but I thought you might be interested.
